The punja is a low evergreen tree found in southern western Breland, most notably in the coastal jungles. The wood is very oily, and unsuitable for burning due to the fumes it gives off when burned. Neither is the wood useful for furniture due to its small diameter, and knottiness.
Throughout the year, punja produces tiny yellow flowers that give way to clusters of small berries. These berries are hard, green and sour until just the day before they fall from the tree, at which time they turn red, sweet and soft. Once fallen, they are food to birds and small creatures.
They can be eaten fresh, or mashed and stored for later fermenting. There is a popular brandy in Moonwatch made from these berries.
